Seeing Greatness
I think there is something you need to know about this community. Many I talk to each week have a negative view of the community. They complain about pot holes or taxes or the weather, which I find funny when they've spent 60 odd summers, winters, spring, or falls here, but I wonder if they know the amazing greatness they have here.
We were privy to this community's greatness on Saturday when our world stopped and many came out to support us. They brought us blankets, boots, soups, coffee, even pizza as the temperatures held at single digits and we couldn't bear to leave. They stood by us and marveled at the fire as it overtook brick and steel. They cried with us, held us, and let us watch in silence.
The outpouring of support has been absolutely amazing. I know times of crisis bring people together but this has been beyond my wildest imagination. Before the fire had consumed half our building Mayor Dave Ross, Business Improvement District, CEO Kaye Tenerelli, The Development Association, CEO Andy Lisak, and The Chamber of Commerce CEO, Dave Minor had all contacted us and had all put the wheels in motion to get us back on our feet. They came together to catch us and help us land softly after this tragedy.
The in box on my phone filled instantly as word of the fire spread quickly through the area and neighbors, acquaintances, friends, and family reached out. I have never had my voice mail full. Not only we people offering condolences but solutions and ideas at the same time letting us grieve. All with offers and no pressures. All with comments of when you are ready we are here. All with questions saying what do you need from us. All with pens ready to record our answers as to best meet our needs in this time.
Do you know what a treasure that is? The making of a great community is seen in her people and I saw greatness last weekend. Thank You.
